Huawei Mate 20 eight features detailed

Previously, Huawei has announced that it will release its annual flagship Mate 20 series in London, England on October 16. Not surprisingly, Huawei Mate 20 will also launch the world's first launch with Kirin 980. Coincidentally, this date is exactly the same as last year's Mate 10 conference.

1, end side AI upgrade: more powerful and more accurate
Last year's Kirin 970's biggest highlight was the built-in NPU (Neural Network Unit), and in this year's Kirin 980, the NPU was upgraded from a single core to a dual core. NPU hardware upgrade, the most intuitive difference in experience is to cross from two-dimensional to three-dimensional in intelligent recognition.

The highlights of the previous generation of NPUs were mainly focused on identifying the content displayed by the planar image and the speed of recognition. For example, when you take a photo, the camera will show you what you are shooting, landscape, text, animal, food or something else.


The dual-core NPU highlights the detection of three-dimensional objects, which will affect the more stereoscopic recognition requirements at the functional level, such as face recognition. 2, flagship performance: CPU first use three clusters architecture, fill the game short board
The Kirin 980 equipped with Huawei Mate 20 has a considerable upgrade in basic performance and uses TSMC's latest 7nm process. Not only performance enhancements, but also power consumption expectations.

Kirin 980 has adopted a three-cluster architecture in the CPU part, which consists of three cores: large, medium and small. It was first seen in MediaTek's ten-core processor (2+4+4). Although the chip still uses an eight-core design, it is no longer the traditional 4+4, but 2+2+4.



Unlike MediaTek, Kirin 980 has joined Huawei's DynamIQ technology and added Huawei HiAI2.0, which is more intelligent in scheduling.

At the same time, the nature of Kirin 980 is still composed of two cores, A76 and A55. Unlike MediaTek, it is composed of three completely different cores. Kirin 980 selected two A76s as the super-large core, and the other two A76s were called the large core. As for the quad-core A55, it was similar to the previous one. The CPU performance of Kirin 980 is not much better than that of the Snapdragon 845. The on-site measurement of its application startup speed has been ahead of Qualcomm.


On the GPU side, the Kirin 980 is powered by the Mali-G76 MP10. Compared with the Mali-G72, the Mali-G76 has the biggest change in the total number of cores (up to MP20) and the increase in the number of individual execution engines (four to eight).


Based on this, Kirin 980 chose a 10-core GPU, which is a relatively compromise solution. Because Kirin has always been taking a multi-core high-frequency route, it is unrealistic to be full of cores. Even if Samsung's Exynos 9820 next year, it may only be maintained to MP15-16. It is foreseeable that its GPU limit performance is still a long way from Qualcomm and Apple.

However, compared with Kirin 970, Kirin 980's progress in GPU has been quite large. Therefore, Mate 20's performance in game performance will certainly not be very bad, in the past, Huawei's flagship game short board will be filled.
