SoCionext Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced visual image SoC applications, announced the release of M820L, a new product of the hybrid codec M820 series. The improved performance of the M820L maximizes the value of video data.
The M820 series combines the industry's highest processing performance hardware codec engine and CPUs with highly flexible software processing capabilities. In addition to the original functions such as multi-channel, high-definition picture quality encoding and decoding of video, video data can be acquired in real time and integrated into the output video data stream, thereby realizing various video application solutions with added value. The newly launched M820L is equipped with a coded SoC "MB86M30" and a multi-core processor "SC2A11" that integrates all functions on the PCI-e Low Profile interface card. Inserting the M820L into a PC or server's PCI-e slot can be used flexibly as an accelerator to reduce CPU coding processing load. The M820L can enhance the coding performance of existing systems and can also expand system capabilities to meet new functional and performance requirements.

Recently, Socionext partnered with Dwango of Japan to launch a new video transcoding system, which has strengthened the service of “Niconico Live” under Dwango. The system adopts the Socionext mixed codec M820L and the server, which greatly improves the performance of real-time video transcoding and provides users with a high-quality audiovisual experience. As the originator of the second meta-projection website, Niconico has been established for ten years. In addition to “Niconico Animation”, it also launched “Niconico Live” and other services, enjoying a high reputation both at home and abroad. However, with the continuous increase in the number of users, the early configuration of the server appeared to be overloaded. In order to solve this problem, Socionext started with hardware improvements and proposed a system solution that combines the M820L hybrid codec and server to achieve high-quality, high-efficiency, and low-power transcoding. Compared to the original system, Socionext's new video transcoding system offers up to a 2x improvement in processing performance. In addition, the MB86M30 on the M820L can also support HEVC decoding technology and 4K video, which can greatly enhance the user experience.
At the same time, Socionext has also collaborated with Fujitsu of Japan on the development of a video analytics module "FUJITSU Human Centric AI Zinrai", which fully demonstrates the high performance of the M820L. In the demo, the M820L receives signals from the camera and converts them into high-compression, high-quality video data while performing image processing and analysis. The useful data is extracted and put into Zinrai's inference server to perform operations that are difficult to achieve in traditional cloud processing. Resolution, high-definition real-time video resolution. The M820L has a wide range of applications and can meet various needs such as high-precision surveillance camera solutions, digital marketing, or analysis of sports videos and content management during image transmission. The system is expected to be available from December 2018.
