Compared with the 4G era, the 5G era is a new era; major 5G related manufacturers are pushing ahead to meet the 5G era. As far as the 5G terminal side is concerned, there are already Qualcomm, Huawei, Samsung, Intel and other vendors working on 5G baseband.
According to reports, on August 15th, Samsung announced on the official website that it has developed the industry's first 5G baseband - Exynos Modem 5100, which fully complies with the latest standards of the 5G new air interface of the 15th edition of the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project). The baseband is based on a 10 nm process and is compatible with 2G, 3G and 4G.
Specifically, the Exynos Modem 5100 supports the Sub-6GHz band and the millimeter wave band under the 3GPP 5G standard, and supports existing frequency bands such as 2G GSM / CDMA, 3G WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, HSPA and 4G LTE. Among them, in the Sub-6GHz 5G band, it can achieve a download speed of up to 2Gps; in the millimeter wave band, it can reach a download speed of up to 6Gps. In addition, the Exynos Modem 5100 is also able to guarantee download speeds of up to 1.6Gps on 4G networks.
The 5G terminal prototype of the Exynos Modem 5100 modem has successfully completed the OTA 5G-NR data transmission test. Since this test simulates the real-world cellular network, Samsung believes that this will accelerate the commercialization of 5G; Samsung has also cooperated with a group of global operators and partners for 5G cooperation.
In addition to being used in mobile devices, Samsung said the Exynos Modem 5100 can also be used for IoT, high-resolution video, real-time A I and autopilot.
Regarding the specific time available, Samsung said consumers can use the product by the end of 2018, and the Exynos Modem 5100 will also be offered with RFIC, Envelope Tracking (ET) and Power Management IC solutions.
